This description is for Thymus vulgaris: An evergreen low-growing shrub, Thymus vulgaris is the species of Thyme that is most commonly found in herb gardens - thus, its better-known name is Common Thyme. It is quite bushy compared to some of the other species, but emits the same unmistakable aroma whenever its foliage is crushed. A grey-green colour through the year, in summer it sports a sprinkling of pink blossoms, which turn to white by autumn. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil and prefers to be in full sun. It is also at home in a wide variety of locations, from gravel beds to rockeries, and happily adopts roles from edging to groundcover.
