Product description

Portulaca oleracea or Hogweed is generally considered to be a weed. Its a spreading plant that grows low to the ground. Good if you need some ground cover, but dont want a plant that will take over your garden. It has red stems and chunky succulent leaves. The leaves are edible and have a sour salty taste. The flowers are small and yellow. They close up when it gets dark and open up again when the sun comes out. It has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to cure various ailments including diarrhea and boils. It is one of the ingredients of a symbolic dish served during the traditional Japanese New Year ritual.
