This description is for Lavandula x intermedia: A hybrid of Lavandula augustfolia and Lavandula latifolia, Lavandula x intermedia is one of the most popular species of Lavender for more than just its beautiful floral display. It has a greater resilience to dry conditions, while its round habit means it’s attractively styled, with a grey-green foliage that offers great contrast. It earns its common name, Hedge Lavender, because its stems become woody over time until it resembles a small hedgerow. But its great attraction is the light blue or purple floral spikes that grow quite tall in summer, creating a spectacular sea of colour. Hedge Lavender thrives in dry soil in full sun, so is ideal for gravel beds and rockeries. Pruning severely in spring is recommended.
