This description is for Crocus tommasinianus: Crocus tommasinianus is a perennial flowering bulb that grows less than 0.5ft high. Commonly called the early crocus because of its spring flowering time, C. tommasinianus develops purple blooms which pale to white at the base of each petal. These rise above the thin green leaves on white stems for additional interest. Early crocus is best placed in a spot that received full sun, and the soil should be well draining and infertile. This ensures that bulbs don’t rot in the wetter parts of the year. C. tommasinianus is ideally grown in a rockery setting, though will thrive in containers and herbaceous borders.
