Asplenium scolopendrium, or Hart’s Tongue Fern, is an interesting evergreen plant that sports cream coloured fruit during the summertime. Its leaves grow into an arching rosette, and its spores create a striped effect as they grow on the underside of the leaf. It’s easy to grow. it has an abundance of names, but perhaps ‘Christ’s Hair’ is the most evocative. It likes partial or full shade and can be damaged if exposed to bright sunlight. Although it has been known to flower, don’t bank on it. Even if blooms do appear they’re likely to be insignificant, so plant this little plant to create a foliage effect only.
