Zebra plant 'Louisae'

Aphelandra squarrosa 'Louisae' | Also known as: Saffron spike 'Louisae' | Rating: 0 votes | Print / Pdf

It's not hard to see why Aphelandra squarrosa also goes by the name of zebra plant, it has large bright green leaves with very obvious white veins. It's a native of Brazil, but it grows well as a house plant in areas where it's too cold to grow it outdoors. It likes lots of light but it won't appreciate too much direct sunshine. It isn't a frequent flowering plant, but when the flowers do bloom, they're a lovely bright yellow colour. It's a bit of a difficult plant to grow as it can suffer if it gets either too dry or too moist, so you have to keep a close eye on it. It also needs to be kept consistently at a temperature greater than 15C.
