A dull and dreary garden can be a bit depressing and certainly not inviting. A garden bursting with colour and texture that draws you in? Now that’s more like it! Geranium wlassovianum or Wlassov’s geranium is more than up for the challenge of creating an enticing garden design. This plant is all about colour, with pretty velvety foliage that turns from reddish-purple to green then bright red as the seasons pass. Not to be outdone by the foliage, the magnificent flowers are a vibrant purple with a white centre and darker purple veins. Wlassov’s geranium accommodates most moist and well-drained soils and though it grows in shade it prefers full sunlight or partial shade. The trailing nature of this plant makes it a great way to liven up bare walls or to energize borders and beds, and you’ll be ready to roll with rock gardens thanks to the presence of this exciting plant.

Crane's bill

PLANTS Geranium

Geranium is a large genus of plants, commonly called cranesbill, containing around 422 species. Plants are annual, biennial and perennial, and though mostly common to the Mediterranean, can be found in temperate and tropical regions too. Geraniums are characterised by their cleft and broadly circular leaves and the five-petalled flowers that come in colours of pink, purple, white and blue. Flowers often have distinctive veining for additional attraction. Plants normally bloom extremely well and as they grow in most conditions, are a garden favourite. Some species can also be pruned back hard after flowering to encourage a second flush of blooms.
