Krainz’ Crown Cactus

Rebutia krainziana | Also known as: Gay Crown | Rating: 0 votes | Print / Pdf

Although a globular cactus like so many of this genus, rebutia krainziana is a little different. Known as krainz’ crown cactus, it likes to grow in clumps, has tiny spines and is without ribs, but unlike its cousins, it boasts a dark green colour with milk-white areoles dotted around it. Also, it is amongst the earliest cacti to flower, producing brilliant red, trumpet-shaped blossoms with large yellow throats. A tender plant, it is best to grow under glass, in pots with cactus compost. Water regularly in summer and rarely in winter, and re-pot annually at the end of winter. A great choice for conservatories or even a home office.
