The Japanese shrub Acer palmatum is often more plainly called Japanese Maple. They reach their full potential in partial shade, and when fully developed are notable for their striking foliage, which turns blood red, golden yellow and brilliant orange in Autumn. This deciduous tree also bears tiny nests of purple flowers and ornate winged fruit that falls from its branches once ripe.
