Astilbe thunbergii 'Professor van der Wielen' or Astilbe 'Professor van der Wielen' is a tall variety of astilbe. It has long sprays of drooping white flowers that bloom in the summer months. It is easy to grow in any soil type as long as it is kept very moist. Being a tall variety it is perfect for adding interest to the rear of a flower bed behind other smaller plants. It also works well in a container as long as it is watered regularly. It's a low maintenance plant that doesn't usually suffer from disease or attack from garden pests.
