Butterfly bush

Buddleja madagascariensis | Also known as: summer lilac, Buddleja nicodemia, Nicodemia madagascariensis | Rating: 0 votes | Print / Pdf

The foliage of buddleja madagascariensis or the Madagascar butterfly bush is just one of the beautiful features of this shrub. Felted and silvery on the top and dark green underneath, the leaves are very pretty and are displayed gracefully on the arching stems. The slender panicles of tubular flowers produced by this shrub are a brilliant way to light up a garden thanks to their warm colouring, which can come in shades of yellow, orange and pink. The Madagascar butterfly bush likes fertile soils with good drainage in partially shaded or sunny spots and its burst of colourful and scented flowers within borders and beds is a superb attraction for both human and butterfly visitors.
