Bronze New Zealand hair sedge

Carex comans | Rating: 2 votes | Print / Pdf

And the bronze-leaved medal goes to… the Carex Comans ornamental grass!

Carex comans, an ever green grass, grows in a mound with long thread like arching leaves. It's usually bronze in colour but there are green varieties too. It grows to around 30cm high and 60cm wide and likes moist soil so it's well suited to being grown alongside a garden pond. It also looks great in a container. It's an easy plant to grow and it's hardy. It likes full sun or partial shade. It produces spikes of small brown flowers but they don't add much to the look of this plant which is grown mainly for the striking foliage.
