Beauty Bush

Kolkwitzia amabilis | Rating: 0 votes | Print / Pdf

The Beauty Bush specialises in making all other shrubs jealous.

A deciduous shrub, Kolkwitzia amabilis is often chosen by gardeners for its delicately feminine floral display in summer. Commonly known as the Beauty Bush, it boasts long, gracefully arching branches that become heavily laden with sprays of tiny, bell-shaped, pale pink or white blossoms, which stand out strongly against its mid-green, oval leaves. In autumn, as the blossoms disappear, the foliage turns a golden green colour with tiny fruit capsules developing. The Beauty Bush is a big fan of chalky soil, but thrives in most soil types as long as it is moist, well-drained and in a full sun location. Hardy and low maintenance, pruning immediately after flowering is recommended.
