Basket Plant

Aeschynanthus speciosus | Also known as: Blush wort, Aeschynanthus splendens | Rating: 1 votes | Print / Pdf

Showy basket plant: showy is just the right word for this plant; the peacock of the plant kingdom.

Native to Asia and Indonesia, Aeschynanthus speciosus is also known as basket plant. It's a trailing flowering plant with vibrant orange and yellow blooms. The showy funnel shaped flowers grow along the length of the stem in clusters, and can grow up to 10cm in length. This plant can grow very large and will make a stunning hanging basket. The trailing branches can grow up to 60cm in length. Only suited to warmer climates, this plant will not thrive at temperatures below 16 degrees C, and it will need to be kept well watered and likes a humid environment so it's a reasonably high maintenance plant.
