Epimedium leptorrhizum leptorrhizum | Also known as: Bishop's hat, Fairy wings | Rating: 0 votes | Print / Pdf

Epimedium leptorrhizum leptorrhizum from Japan is a fairly hardy plant that enjoys growing in the shade. It's a spreading plant that likes moist soil with good drainage and it will benefit from the addition of some compost or leaf mould. The pink flowers have a delicate appearance, a hanging cross shaped bloom on a short stem. The leaves are large, heart shaped with prominent deep veins. The lower side of the leaves are covered in a white chalky coating. The foliage will be more attractive if the plant is in damp soil. Cut back the dead leaves to keep it looking at its best.
