Clematis alpina 'Pink Flamingo' | Rating: votes| Print / Pdf
The Austrian Clematis is a delightful plant that sports drooping purple blooms during the springtime. During the autumn it becomes covered in fluffy seed heads. It’s a climbing plant so looks fabulous grown up a trellis or wall, but does like a full sunlight or partially shaded position to best thrive. It can also be successfully grown in pots or containers. Clematis alpine is a hardy little number that can cope with the worst weather that Mother Nature sees fit to throw at it, making it especially suited to growing in the UK.
There are around 300 species of Clematis. They're very popular in gardens with stunning large flowers. Most species are climbing and look beautiful trained up a trellis. Most species are native to China or Japan. They will grow best with cool moist roots and plenty of sun. They'll grow in most types of fertile soil. They are fairly easy to grow but are susceptible to various diseases and also to pests so they can be a little high maintenance. There are loads of different colour varieties, from white to lilac, pink and rich burgundy. The flowers are usually large and star shaped.
