Armenian cranesbill

Geranium psilostemon | Also known as: Crane's bill, Geranium Geranium armenum | Rating: 0 votes | Print / Pdf

The Armenian cranesbill crows on you, whether you plant it in soil or a container

Though an ideal plant for borders, that doesn’t mean geranium psilostemon or Armenian cranesbill is one to stand on the side lines. The striking flowers produced by Armenian cranesbill are purplish-pink with black centres and black veins and are impossible not to attract admiring looks. This plant also produces an attractive spread of lobed leaves, which take on a red tint during autumn. This plant grows in any fertile, moist soil with good drainage and prefers full sunlight or partial shade, though it will grow in shade as well. In addition to borders Armenian cranesbill looks fantastic in beds and used for under-planting. This is a gorgeous choice for groundcover and a great way to brighten up a wildlife garden. Armenian cranesbill also grows in containers and is guaranteed to revitalise a dull patio or turn a courtyard garden into an enchanting retreat.

Crane's bill

PLANTS Geranium

Geranium is a large genus of plants, commonly called cranesbill, containing around 422 species. Plants are annual, biennial and perennial, and though mostly common to the Mediterranean, can be found in temperate and tropical regions too. Geraniums are characterised by their cleft and broadly circular leaves and the five-petalled flowers that come in colours of pink, purple, white and blue. Flowers often have distinctive veining for additional attraction. Plants normally bloom extremely well and as they grow in most conditions, are a garden favourite. Some species can also be pruned back hard after flowering to encourage a second flush of blooms.
