Angel Wings

Caladium bicolor | Also known as: Heart of Jesus, Elephant Ear | Rating: 1 votes | Print / Pdf

Angel wings - More angelic than fairy wings, but just as pretty.

With over 1,000 cultivars of Caladium bicolor, it is not difficult to find a garden with at least one of the species, especially since all cultivars boast a vivid display of colour. Its common names come from the shape of its large, usually heart-shaped leaves - Angel Wings or Heart of Jesus. The latter is often applied to cultivars that feature leaves that flush red or pink. For the most part, these clump-forming evergreen boasts dark or blue-green foliage. It thrives in moist but well-drained soil in partial shade, making it ideal as underplanting, but its poor hardiness means it is best to grow indoors.
