Acer davidii or Père David's maple is a tree originally from China with an unusually patterned bark that looks rather like the skin of a snake. It's a small sized tree, growing no more than 15 metres high and it will rarely reach that height. It often has several trunks and the branches are long and arching. The leaves are long and broad, up to 18cm long and 9cm wide and have a slightly rippled edge. It has small yellow flowers. It grows best in fertile soil that retains the water well.
