Lobel's maple does require lots of pruning. It's also rare and endangered, so take care with those secateurs!

Acer lobelii or Lobel's maple grows tall and narrow, great if you have a narrow spot to fill. It's a fast growing tree that will reach around 15m in height. It is native to Southern Italy, where it is now considered to be an endangered species. Acer lobelii was introduced to the UK back in 1683. It grows in most types of soil. The leaves are dark green and turn a bright yellow in the autumn. It has small yellow/green flowers and winged fruit.
