Lady Banks rose

Rosa banksiae var. normalis | Also known as: Single white banksian rose | Rating: 1 votes | Print / Pdf

Single White Banksian Rose - Slightly less impressive than Double White Banksian Rose.

Just like its Double White cousin, Rosa banksiae var. normalis brings no shortage of elegance to a garden. Commonly called the Single White Banksian Rose, it produces modest clusters of simple five-petalled white blossoms that are softly scented. Its evergreen foliage is pale green, comprising either lance-shaped or ovate leaves depending on the cultivar. A vigorous climber, the Single White Banksian Rose might envelop a wall, trellis or other structure quickly, but unlike its cousins, has thorns on its thin, woody stems. It loves sheltered, sunny locations in chalky or loamy, well-drained soil. Popular in cottage gardens, and regular pruning encourages growth.

PLANTS Rosa

Rosa or rose is a genus that certainly doesn't need an introduction. Popular the world over, roses are prized for their beauty and are a symbol of love, especially on St Valentines Day. There are many species of rose, some grow as shrubs, others are climbers. They usually have sharp thorns and they have attractive flower heads, with velvety petals in a wide array of colours. Of course they are the ultimate cut flower and they're also grown for use in the perfume industry. Roses have featured widely in art and literature. Roses can be easy to grow but they do need pruning and they are often prone to pests.
