Plant your tulip bulbs when the weather starts to turn cold and you're sure the summer is finally over. Don't buy your bulbs too early as they don't like to be sat around waiting to be planted for too long! If a bulb is soft, discard it as it may be rotten.
Pick a spot that's sunny or in partial shade and that doesn't get too waterlogged. They're pretty tolerant so soil type shouldn't be much of an issue. Plant your bulbs pointed side up about five inches apart in holes that are around 8 inches deep. Keep them lightly watered but don't let them get too wet or they can rot.
