Taking a closer look at bird nests

It's lovely to see the birds nesting in the garden, but we usually focus on the birds, watching the parents feeding the babies and waiting for the big day when they leave the nest and learn to fly, but we rarely pay much attention to the nests themselves.

It's lovely to see the birds nesting in the garden, but we usually focus on the birds, watching the parents feeding the babies and waiting for the big day when they leave the nest and learn to fly, but we rarely pay much attention to the nests themselves.

The Growth That is Our Own Cradle is a series of nine photographs by Bianca Tuckwell that clearly draws our attention to the amazing feat that is nest building. Each image studies a different type of bird nest, highlighting the clever and unique construction  methods of each one.
 
Imagine having to build your own home. Then imagine there are no DIY shops to buy tools and materials.  Then think about having to build this home in a tree, and making it secure enough that your children won't fall out!  It sounds like an impossible task but millions of birds do it every single year.
