If you're new to gardening, square foot gardening could be the ideal system for you as it's so simple.

You don't need to do tons of research, there's no complicated procedures, just keep squares in mind! All you need to do is to mark out your garden into squares, each one a foot across . You can do this with twine, edging, or you can buy foot square wooden boxes; perfect for a patio. As you're dealing in small areas, this type of gardening is great for getting a lot of variety into a small garden.

So what can you plant in your squares? Well you can pack a lot into a square foot. One square foot is perfect for growing sixteen carrots, four lettuces, one tomato plant or to add a flush of colour, four marigolds. Of course you can plant anything you like and you'll soon be reaping the rewards with a fabulous selection of flowers and vegetables.
